"Palms of Victory, Crowns of Glory"
Mary LAUBHAN, 75, daughter of the late Alexander Jacob LAUBHAN and Barbara Anna Maurer LAUBHAN was born August 26, 1913 in Knechdar Russia, with her twin sister Helen. She died April 18, 1989 in Washington, D. C. at the home of her daughter, Rita WALL.
At the age of 2, Mary , with her mother and 10 brothers and sisters left Russia to join their father, already resident in what was then Ivanhoe, Oklahoma (one brother, Alexander, remained in Russia.) They crossed the German lines twice, took passage on the S.S. Rotterdam to land in Ellis Island, New York. [A]fter one week they proceeded to Shattuck and then Ivanhoe, where they took up residence.
She grew up on the family farm near Follett and graduated from Follett High School. She married John GIBSON and bore one daughter, Rita. During World War II she was employed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. She remained there until 1974 when she retired. In 1977, she moved to Washington, D. C.
She was an enthusiastic gardener and refinisher of furniture, a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents five brothers (Alexander, Gottfried, Jacob, John, Wilhelm and Otto LAUBHAN) and three sisters (Hulda, Sara and Fredricka LAUBHAN).
She leaves to remember her one brother, Samuel LAUBHAN of Follett, and one sister, Helen TUCKER, of Tracy, California, as well as her daughter, Rita WALL, son-in-law John WALL, and grandchildren, Alexander Robert WALL, Katherine Mary WALL and Emily Deborah WALL of Washington, D. C. She is additionally survived by her cousin Verda LAUBHAN, three nephews Franklin LAUBHAN, Amarillo, Texas, James LAUBHAN, Follett, Texas, and Kaye LAUBHAN, Follett, Texas, and four nieces, Barbara PENDERGRAFT, Gunnison, Colorado, Marilyn YONKE, Sunray, Texas, Josphine RADER, Amarillo, Texas, and Linda BULLER, Armana, California.
Graveside services were held on April 22 at Fairmont Cemetery, Pastor Gordon Burton officiated. Interment followed at Fairmont Cemetery under the direction of Mason Funeral Home.
