Leona Andrews, 92, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 28, 2011.
Burial will be at 9 a.m. today in Westpark Cemetery in Hereford. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Mike Nuthman, pastor at Hillside Christian Church, officiating.
Leona Lee Andrews was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Dustin, Okla., to E.F. and Ada Lee. She married Henry Andrews on Oct. 22, 1938, in Clovis, N.M. They had a daughter, Doris Jean Andrews.
Leona and Henry began their married life farming and ranching in the Frio Community south of Hereford. Henry died in 1985 and Leona continued living at their home place until 1997, when she moved to Amarillo to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
She continued to be involved in the management of the farm/ranch operation until her health started to decline. She still enjoyed the short trips to see the crops growing and the cattle grazing.
She was a member of Frio Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church in Hereford, where she faithfully taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
After moving to Amarillo, she was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church and was blessed by Hillside Christian Church. She blessed many with her gentleness, kindness and the sweetest spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Andrews; her parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, whom she considered her son, Doris J. Andrews Eden and Ken Eden of Amarillo; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or Khiva Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 328, Amarillo, TX 79105.
