HEREFORD - Vada Ruth Zemer Axe, 91, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, in Amarillo.
Celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Frio Baptist Church with the Rev. James Peach, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Axe was born June 17, 1915, in Arkansas to William Frank Zemer and Bessie Lois Yarbrough Zemer. She grew up in New Orleans. She married Anderson "Andy" Axe on Oct. 27, 1946, in Elk City, Okla. They moved to the family farm in north Castro County that Andy's parents had homesteaded in the early 1900s. She lived on that farm until her death.
She was a member of Frio Baptist Church, where she taught preschoolers in Sunday school for many years and was a G.A. leader. She had been a 4-H leader and was a member of the Hereford Garden Club. "MeeMaw" loved to sew, cook, crochet, read and work in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; her parents; and four brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Needham and husband Tommy of Amarillo, Vicki Dannheim and husband Duke of Hereford and Andrea Ethington and husband Frank of Cortez, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Gary Needham, Angela Davis, Craig Needham, Brad Davis, Alanna Stewart, Christina Taylor, Toby Ethington and Cameron Davis; 12 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Kayla, Emily, Sydney, Kate, Hunter, Ashley, Austin, Dante, Riley and Isaiah; a sister-in-law, Louise Axe of Canyon; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Frio Baptist Church, or BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.
