HEREFORD — Michael Edwin Axe, 51, went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2012, following a long illness. Mike got his independence on Independence Day!!

Funeral services will be held at Hereford Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Ted Taylor, pastor officiating. Internment will be in West Park Cemetery under the care of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mike was born Nov. 22, 1960, in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from high school in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1979. He received his degree in diesel mechanics from Texas State Technical Institute in 1984. He turned to farming shortly thereafter and loved that for the rest of his life. Michael was a beloved member of the Hereford community.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy McCracken Axe, a daughter, Shelby Axe, his father's family, Edwin and Pat Axe: his mother's family, Carolyn and Al Grijalva: his sisters, Michelle Axe Pounders, Melissa Weisinger, Niki Axe Archer, Cari Grijalvia, Danielle Burns, Beverly Lewis and Pam Miller; his grandmothers, Louise Axe and Willodyne Brooks; his aunts, Bonnie Wright, Weezie Burger and Linda Brooks; and an uncle, Alan Brooks.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers Wilburn Axe and Everett Daniel Brooks; and a brother, Chad Myers.

The family suggests memorials in Mr. Axe's name be made to King's Manor/Westgate, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045; or Nazarene Christian Academy, 1410 La Plata Drive, Hereford, TX 79045.
