Lucy Mae Echels Blair was 95 years old when she went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 30, 2014. She was born in Waxahachie, Texas on December 28, 1918. She was the daughter of James Richard Echels and Meda Amanda Bennett and had one brother, James William Echels. After graduating from Childress High School, she married Robert Frank Fetting and moved to Long Beach, California. She worked for Lockheed building fighter jets during World War II. She moved back to Texas after her husband died from pneumonia in the fifth year of their marriage.
After dating Bean Franklin Blair for nine years, they were married on January 1, 1947. They settled in Lamesa, Texas, where her husband owned Economy Printing Company. Their daughter, Cynthia Diane, was born on December 24, 1955. Lucy was involved in the Christian Women's Association at First Christian Church, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She was the bookkeeper for her husband's business. She was interested in sewing, oil painting, and pottery. She researched Bean Blair's family history and published a book detailing the Blair family from the time they immigrated to America to the present day. Lucy always loved the Lord. She supported several small churches and taped services for them. She brought up her daughter to love the Lord as she did. In her later years she enjoyed watching the television station TBN for their religious programming and old gospel songs. Lucy Blair was married to Bean Blair for 57 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bean, her parents, and her brother J. W. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia; and her son-in-law, Timothy Thompson; her granddaughter Brittany Thompson; and her great-grandsons Mason Thompson and Justin Hoose. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mildred Echels, two nephews James and Joe, two nieces Pat and Darlene, and their families. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 4th at 2:00pm, at Branon Funeral Home Chapel in Lamesa, Texas, with Mrs. Jody Wilson officiating.
