Frank was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Wendell, Idaho, to Fred and May Roberts Barrett. He grew up in Wendell, working on his father's potato farm and graduating from high school in 1940.

After the 1940 potato harvest, he moved with his parents, four brothers and three sisters to Hereford to help establish the family's potato growing and shipping business in the Texas Panhandle. He attended West Texas State University, serving as president of the student body.

He married Betty Jane Caldwell on Sept. 6, 1952, in Canyon. He was an avid supporter of WT throughout his life, serving as president of the Ex-Students Association, helping found the Phoenix Club, being named a Distinguished Alumnus, and serving on the Board of Regents.

After college, he and his wife Betty moved permanently to Here- ford. He was very active in the community, serving on the city commission, and was once named Hereford High School Fan of the Year.

He remained active in the potato business until his last days, with 2010 constituting the family's 101st consecutive year to produce a potato crop. In 2004, he was named to the Texas Fruit and Vegetable Growers Hall of Fame.

Frank was a sound businessman, innovative farmer, loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Caldwell Barrett, in April 4, 2004; his parents, Fred and May Barrett; and seven siblings, Robert, Bea, Dick, Marion, Fred, Stan and Margaret.
