Billie Birdwell, 80, longtime Hereford resident went home to be with her Lord on Monday, August 11, 2014 at her residence.

A Graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 am, Thursday, August 14, 2014 at West Park Cemetery.

A Memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, August 14, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Bushart, Pastor, officiating. Services are entrusted to Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. 6th Street.

Billie was born October 2, 1933 in Plainview, Texas, to Wendell Maurice “Gabe” and Grace (Hayden) Thompson.

She fell in love and married her best friend, William Howard Birdwell on May 24, 1954 in Canyon, Texas. They moved to Hereford in 1969 from Canyon.

Billie graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas A&M University. Billie was a homemaker. She also was a teacher and taught for over 40 years. She loved her Lord and family with all her heart. She loved traveling with Howard. They traveled to all 50 states and visited the state capitals. She liked watching the Texas Rangers baseball team and the Dallas Cowboys football team. She enjoyed watching the FOX News and Sports channel. Billie like to read and do cross word puzzles. Billie was a good baker and loved to have family gatherings and spending time with her friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education Sorority - Delta XI Hereford Chapter. She was the 1st VP for the Hereford Retired School Employees Teachers Association, at the time of her death.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband Howard of the home, 2 daughters; Leslie Birdwell Gordon of Denver, Judy Birdwell King and husband Chris of Norman, OK, 1 brother; W.M. “Buddy” Thompson and wife Pam of Amarillo, TX and 2 grandchildren; Ryan King of Denver and Emily King of Norman.

The family suggest memorials to the Hereford Retired School Employees Association or the First United Methodist Church.
