Services for Jay Preston Boston, 90, of Hereford, were held Monday morning in First United Methodist Church.

Burial, under direction of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home, was in West Park Cemetery.

Mr. Boston, who died Saturday in Hereford, was born in Kentucky and moved to Texas in 1906. He grew up on a farm at Kress. He married Ruby Street on Aug. 25, 1929, and they moved to Hereford in 1946.

He farmed in Castro County and in 1948 was named Farmer of the Year in Dimmitt. Mr. Boston was instrumental in bringing Holly Sugar to Hereford and served as president of the Texas-New Mexico Sugarbeet Association for 10 years and director for 17 years. He was an officer in the Gas Users' Association and worked with Wheat Producers, Soil Conservation and Corn Growers Associations. He spent many hours in Washington, D.C. and Austin on agriculture legislation.

Long active in the United Methodist Church, he once was the youngest member of the board of Polk Street Street [sic] Methodist Church. He had belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Hereford for 47 years, serving on the board of trustees and as a member of the finance committee when the new sanctuary was built. He had belonged to the Chamber of Commerce and Hereford Lions Club.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Jaynice B. Carpenter of Plainview and Kathy Moore of Hereford; a brother, Walk Boston of Amarillo; two sisters, Alice McVoy of Hawaii and Lillian Kennyhertz of Kansas City, Kan., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
