William Joseph Campbell, 54, of Rt. 2 died Thursday, January 25, 1979, at Deaf Smith General Hospital after a short illness.

Services will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. in rose Chapel with Bob Wear, minister of Central Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in West Park Cemetery under the direction of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.

Mr. Campbell was born March 31, 1924 in Corsicana. He married Elvie Van Doren Oct. 6, 1944 in Plainview. They came to Deaf Smith County in 1961 from Olton. Mr. Campbell was a veteran of W.W. II.

He is survived by the widow; three daughters, Glenda Tarno of May Bank [sic], Linda Hill of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Alice Forrach of Amarillo; four sons, Roger, Tommy and Jerry Campbell, all of Hereford and Richard Campbell of Hampton; two sisters, Louise Utley of Huntsville and Maxine Diaz of Amarillo and 13 grandchildren.

Elvie Campbell, 95, a longtime resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in Hereford, Texas. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Central Church of Christ with Mr. Denny Sneed officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Viewing will be on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 3:00-8:00PM at the funeral home.

Elvie was born on August 24, 1926, in Olustee, OK., to Floyd and Mary (Hestand) VanDoern. Elvie has been a longtime resident of the Panhandle most of her adult life. She graduated from Olton High School. Elvie took much pride in raising her 7 wonderful children, caring for her husband, and attending church. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ. Elvie enjoyed embroidering, cooking, especially her famous cinnamon rolls, fudge, and pecan pies, gardening her vegetables, hoeing everyone’s weeds, and making jam perserves from her peach, cherry, and plum trees. Elvie was a simple lady; family and family gatherings were important to her.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children Lynda Hill, Glenda Tarno, Jerry Wayne Campbell, Richard Campbell, and Alice Fornash all of Hereford, Texas, and Roger Campbell of Amarillo, Texas; 17 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; her siblings Minnie Thurman of Amarillo, Texas, and Mary Tate of Iowa, and a first cousin Dorothy Ott of Hereford, Texas.

Elvie is preceded in death by her parents, a son Tommy Campbell, a granddaughter Cheryl Campbell and three sisters, Velvie Berry, Joy Presley and Faye Wesley.
