Mrs. Betty Cocanougher, resident of this section for nearly 30 years, ended an active life of 71 years when she succumbed to a six-months illness last Saturday at the Godwin hospital.
Funeral services were conducted from the First Baptist church at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon by Rev. R.N. Shepherd, pastor, with burial in West Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nester Gass, Ezra Norton, Edgar Mosley, Carl Frye, Bob Higgins and Miles Roberson.
Born in Kentucky on May 10, 1865, Mrs. Cocanougher removed to Collin county, Texas, in 1876. She came to Deaf Smith county in 1907, and for the past two years resided in Castro county, about 18 miles southeast of Hereford. She was a member of the Baptist church for 22 years.
Survivors, all of whom were present for the services, include a daughter, Miss Maggie Cocanougher of Hereford, seven sons, Lee, W.O., H.R., J.B., and Royce, all of Hereford; Claude of Goodland, and S.A. Cocanougher, of Scholle, New Mexico, and a number of grand children.
Out-of-town relatives who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. A.K. Cocanougher, son and three daughters , of Sudan; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cocanougher and Mrs . Lonnie Teal of Lubbock; J.N. Pipes, son, Floyd, and daughters, Mrs. Ella Powers and Mrs. Lula Wells, of White Deer; Rev. and Mrs. Vernie Pipes of Sudan, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cocanougher of Goodland, and Andrew Cocanougher of Mountainair, N.M.
