FRESNO, CA - Maria Victoria Mora Balli, 95, beloved wife and mother passed away peacefully in her home in Fresno, CA on Thursday, June 13, 2013. Maria was born October 5, 1917 in Mercedes, Texas and raised in Relampago, Texas.
She is a descendent of a pioneer family that originated in Valencia, Spain and settled in the Rio Grande Valley. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She graduated from Edinburg High School in 1937. She married Arturo Balli in 1942. They lived in Detroit, MI during World War II before settling in Elsa, Texas, where they owned and operated a gas station. In 1961, they settled permanently in California. She was a homemaker, bookkeeper, seamstress, and authored two books on family history. Her lifetime hobbies included horseback riding, softball, sewing, baking and traveling. She was devoted to her family and her strong religious faith. Over the years, many turned to her with prayer requests leading to her recent nickname "prayer warrior".
With her in heaven are her husband, Arturo M. Balli; her parents, Jose Maria and Maria Victoria Mora; brother, Jose Maria, Jr. and sister, Consuelo Mora Dominguez.
She is survived by her children, Evangelina Balli, Art Balli, Victoria (Bernie) Darman, Nora Ilic, Rachel Balli (Tom Tucker) and Irene Balli (Don) Dumas, 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren & 5 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco with a 7:00 p.m. rosary. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Donna, TX. Interment will follow at Donna City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc., 2602 N. Texas Ave., Weslaco, Texas.
