HEREFORD - Argen Draper, 88, died Thursday, March 6, 2003.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ with James Self of the church and Johnny Eastep, minister, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Draper was born June 10, 1914, in Wellington, to Elias Marion Hix and May Godfrey. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1930. She married Tom Draper on Feb. 7, 1946, in Wellington. She came to Deaf Smith County in 1947 from Tahoka. She was a member of Central Church of Christ of Hereford.

She was an extension agent for 34 years. She was listed in World Who's Who of Women. She received the Texas Panhandle Distinguished Service Award, was a member of D.A.R. and was a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary, and was chairman of Hereford's first Town and Country Jubilee and served as co-chairman for nine years.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 23, 2001.

Survivors include two nephews, O.K. Neal Jr. of Lubbock and Marion H. Neal of La Grange, Ill.; her care givers, Patty Pena, Velia Valdez and Mary Gamboa; and many other nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to Central Church of Christ Benevolence Fund; or a local hospice organization.
