Hereford Man Dies of Fumes

HEREFORD, Oct. 25 - Funeral services are pending for James Levon Durham, 34, of 606 Miles, who was overcome by fumes in a grain bin at the Hereford Grain Co. Tuesday evening.

Durham was pronounced dead about 8 p.m. Tuesday after apparently falling from a ladder on which he was climbing out of a 10-foot bin.

Another grain firm employee, A.B. Carr, managed to get out of the bin after he noted strong fumes. A rescue attempt by an employee, Jamie Clearman, failed when Clearman had to leave the bin before securing a rope around Durham.

Resuscitation efforts by the Hereford Fire Department on Durham failed.

Durham is survived by his wife, Erika, and two daughters, Betty, 7, and Jamie, 2.

He was a veteran of World War II and a baptist.

The Gililland Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
