*Obituary Jaynice Ann Carpenter
Longtime Plainview resident Jaynice Ann Boston Carpenter was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Amarillo, Texas, to Jay and Ruby Boston.

She grew up in Hart, Texas, where Mrs. Boston was postmistress and Mr. Boston custom farmed in the area. The family moved to Here¬ford, Texas, her junior year of high school. She had one sister, Kathy Kay Boston Moore, deceased. She graduated from Here¬ford High School and attended North Texas Teachers College and Texas Tech University before marrying John Thomas Estes of Here¬ford. Jaynice and John had two children, John Jay Estes (deceased) and Jodie Ann Estes Williams. Jaynice married Medlin Carpenter in 1986. The eight years they spent together before Mr. Carpenter passed away were the happiest years of her life. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of First United Methodist Church in Plainview where for more than 50 years she served in many different areas. She worked for most of her adult life. She returned to the workforce following Mr. Carpenter's death as a licensed chemical dependency counselor at the J.B. Wheeler Unit in Plainview and remained there until medical issues forced her retirement. She deeply enjoyed her work with the imprisoned population there and tried to return, but her health would not allow it. She remained active in her church and community until recently.

Mrs. Carpenter is predeceased by her parents, Jay and Ruby Boston; her husband, Medlin Carpenter; her son, John Jay Estes; and her sister, Kathy Kay Boston Moore.

She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Estes Williams of Austin, Texas, and her children, Katherine Ann Williams of San Antonio and Jaynice Nichole Williams of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She also is survived by the children of her son, John Garrett Estes and his wife, Tami, of San Diego, Calif., Erica Estes Pigg and her husband, Jarret, of Turkey, Texas, and Joanna Estes Walden and her husband, Charlie, also of Turkey. Also surviving is her daughter–in-love, Sarah Roberts Westmoreland of Lubbock. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by an additional daughter-in-love, Sherry Lynn Carpenter Akin and her husband, Kent Allen Akin, of Plainview and their children, Chad Allen and Jae Lynn Akin of Winter Haven, Fla., Russell Scott Akin and his wife, Jill, of Midland, Texas, and Emily Lynn Akin Cannon and her husband, Shawn, of Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Carpenter was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren: Madison Faye, Chance Clinton and Allie Belle Pigg of Turkey, Charles Cole Walden II of Turkey, Rachel Elizabeth and Caroline Ann Akin of Winter Haven, Fla., Allison Grace and William Scott Akin of Midland, and Anna Katherine, Colten David and Thomas Grant Cannon of Lubbock. In addition, she is survived by nephews, nieces and numerous dear friends.

She died at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at her home.

A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at West Park Cemetery in Hereford, Texas, at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by a memorial service at First United Methodist Church in Plain¬view at 2 p.m. Saturday.
