Funeral services for August T. Frye, 71, farmer and rancher in Deaf Smith County since 1918, who died Monday in a hospital here, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at First Baptist Church.
For some 20 years, Mr. Frye served as Postmaster for the Dawn Post Office.
He had been a member of the board of directors for Dawn Co-Op Elevator since its founding, and at the time of his death was a member of the board of was a member of the board of [sic] Cooperative.
The Rev. Harold Koestner, Lutheran pastor from Lubbock, the Rev. B.L. Davis of First Baptist Church, and Pastor Fred Beversdorf of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiated for the rites. Mr. Frye was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Born Dec. 13, 1894, in New Minden, Ill., he came here from Illionos [sic] and married Miss Olive Wilson in Kentucky in 1922. He was a veteran of World War I military service.
Survivors are his wife of the home, 112 Elm; a daughter, Mrs. Steve Bavousett of Dawn; two sisters, Miss Berha [sic] Frye of Hereford and Mrs. Henry Kottmeyer of St. Louis; and two brothers, Richard Frye of Dawn and Reinhold Frye of Vista, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Burial was in West Park Cemetery directed by Gililland Funeral Home. Melvin May, Sam Morgan, Bob Strain, Murphy White, Arthur Tiefel and LeRoy Johnson served as pallbearers.
