Funeral Services Held Saturday For Ex-Rancher Charles Hodges

Funeral services for Charles Hodges, a retired farmer and rancher, were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Baptist church, of which he was a member. Rev. Howard Scott conducted the services.

Hodges died Thursday morning in Deaf Smith County hospital after an illness of about two years. He was 80 years old.

Burial was in West Park Cemetery under the direction of Gililland Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Roy M. Sheppard, Harry Lomas, Jack Brown, C.C. Rockwell, Otto Massey, and Roy Jowell.

Born in Grayson County

Hodges was born April 3, 1873, in Grayson County, Texas. He married Ollie Higgins January 10, 1897 at Dexter, Texas. They came to Deaf Smith County in 1898 from Gordonville.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, R.L. Hodges of St. Louis, Mo.; and S.L. Hodges of Hereford; a daughter, Mrs. Dick Newton of Joplin, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Hodges of San Fernando, Calif.; and Sam Hodges of Shawnee, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Sina McAdams of Whitesboro; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
