HEREFORD - Elane Wagoner Jones, 70, died Thursday, March 5, 2009.
Rosary will be said 7 p.m. today in Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mass be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Dreher as celebrant. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 27, 1939, in Amarillo, the daughter of Robert and Martha Wagoner, and died after a courageous battle with cancer. Until Elane started school, she lived on a farm north of Hereford. She attended school in Hereford and graduated in 1957. Elane then went to nursing school at Amarillo College and interned at the old Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, becoming a registered nurse in 1960.
Elane married B.L. "Lynn" Jones on Aug. 20, 1960, in Hereford and was happily married for 48 years. Elane had three children, and kept busy with them until the youngest entered high school. She then returned to work as a nurse case manager, evaluating the health-care needs for home-bound people. Just as she loved caring for her husband and children, she also loved caring for those who could not care for themselves. Elane retired from nursing in 2002 and assisted her husband with his various businesses. Elane enjoyed visiting with her many friends, all of her 30 cousins, her classmates from 1957 and the Red Hatters.
Elane and Lynn joined St. Anthony's Catholic Church in 2006, were very active in the church and enjoyed attending Mass weekly. The delights of Elane's life were her husband, her children and their spouses, and her grandchildren. Elane and Lynn enjoyed many trips together, particularly to the Rocky Mountains in the United States and Canada.
The family wishes to thank Samaritan Hospice and dear friend, Bertha Zepeda, and all those who helped Elane throughout her cancer treatment and came to visit.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Lynn; two sons, Gary Jones and wife Susan of Oklahoma City and Robert Jones and wife Kristi of Hereford; a daughter, Karen Jones of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Ben, Sam and Emma Jones; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Samaritan Hospice, 426 N. Main St., Hereford, TX 79045; or St. Anthony's Catholic School Endowment Fund, 114 Sunset Drive, Hereford, TX 79045.
The Jones family would like to invite their family and friends to join them after services at 332 Douglas St. in Hereford for food and fellowship.
