July 20, 1942-February 20, 2009
Wife of Jerome Lee McCaslin
Obituary:
Mary Alice McCaslin was born July 20, 1942 in Laverne, Oklahoma to Mary Lue and Denver Laverty. She and her mother moved to Shattuck, Okla. when her mother later remarried in high school. Mary began to work at the hospital at Shattuck and later obtained her RN at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Mary was a nurse for the majority of her life and caring for others was second nature to her.
On December 26, 1963, Mary and Jerome Lee McCaslin wed in the Catholic church in Shattuck. Theirs was a marriage that lasted forty-five years. In 1964, they welcomed a daughter, Denise Ann, and in 1967, a son, John William.
The family moved to Colwater, Kansas shortly after John's birth. They stayed there until 1981 when the family returned to Shattuck to care for aging relatives. The family increased again when John wed Paula King and Denise married Neil Gebara. Mary had always said she wanted four children and now her wish had come true. Four grandchildren joined the clan: Amber Amanda and Brady McCaslin and Adam Gebara.
In October of 2008, Mary lost Jerry. On February 20, 2009, she rejoined him in peace. Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents, her younget sister, Elaine and her beloved husband, Jerry. She is surved by her sisters, Donna and Bonna Gayle and her "four" children and four grandchildren. Also surviving are various cousins and nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as Aunt Alice.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association or to the American Diabetes Association in care of the Mason Funeral Home in Shattuck.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Midway Country Church in Logan, Okla. with Pator Jack Cornell officiating. Interment followed the service in the Fairmont Cemetery in Follett, Texas.
