SAN ANTONIO - Reuben Howard Knox, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Wayside Chapel. Arrangements are by Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Mr. Knox was born Jan. 21, 1931, at Hereford, to Bill and Lorene Knox. He attended Hereford public schools and Amarillo Junior College. He later became a top sales engineer with Gifford-Hill Western, for whom he laid miles of underground pipe used in irrigating the rich farmland in much of the Texas Panhandle. He worked in sales for Johns Manville in San Antonio before retiring in 1989.

He married the former Mary Lou Prickett on June 21, 1953. He loved Southern gospel music and people whom he loved to tease, especially the 12 women in his wife's Bunco group which Mary Lou often hosted. Earlier in life he was an avid sportsman and member of barbershop singing groups

More recently he enjoyed painting and working and playing on his computer. Suffering poor health in recent years, he borrowed and adopted a slogan from a favorite gospel musician, "My health is bad, my bag is packed and I'm ready to go."

Survivors include his wife; four children, Ralph Knox and Ray Knox, both of San Antonio, Rosemary Knox Condon of Carbondale, Colo., and Rosalind Knox Johnson of Austin; a brother, Bill Knox of Amarillo; a sister, Faye Durham of San Angelo; four grandchildren, Sandi Walker, Clay Chapman, Curtis Chapman and Caitlin Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline Walker and Savannah Walker.

The family will greet friends from noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to Wayside Chapel building fund.
