HEREFORD - Richard "Rick" William McCracken, 62, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, in Amarillo.

Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Hereford Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Ted Taylor officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors.

Rick was born April 13, 1947, in Brush, Colo., to William "Bill" and Doris Kuck McCracken. As a young man, he enjoyed helping his dad on the farm, playing sports and spending time with friends. He married the love of his life, Sandra Elaine Sauer, on Sept. 25, 1964, in Fort Morgan, Colo. They moved their young family to Hereford in 1972, where Rick started his business, which he operated all these years. He treasured his many friendships that were created through his work with area farmers and businessmen.

Over the years, he loved being involved in sports, including softball, basketball, coaching his kids and following the Hostile Herd. In the 1980s, he could be seen in his big orange van pulling the Hereford Bull to football games and more recently in the stands watching the Lady Whiteface volleyball team.

He was a member of the Hereford Church of the Nazarene and always talked fondly of the memories and friendships formed with other members of the congregation, including the occasional competitive game of Rook.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Ricky, and two brothers, Dennis and Rusty McCracken.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy McCracken; a daughter, Cindy Axe and husband Mike; two sons, Rodney McCracken and wife Jill and Roger McCracken and wife Shelly, all of Hereford; his parents, Bill and Doris McCracken of Fort Morgan; two brothers, David and Brian McCracken, both of Fort Morgan; two sisters, Sandy Duncan of Bennett, Colo., and Cheri Kinnison of Fort Morgan; and eight grandchildren.
