Don McDonald, 47, of Hereford died Wednesday at his home.

A prayer services will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Rix Funeral Chapel. Additional services will be announced by Rix Funeral Directors.

Born in Hereford on March 24, 1945, Mr. McDonald was a boiler operator for Holly Sugar for nine years. He belonged to the American Federation of Grain Millers, AFL-CIO Local Union 321.

He married Vi Encinias on Dec. 6, 1961 in Hereford. Mr. McDonald attended the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy McDonald of Amarillo and Kirt McDonald of Lawton, Okla.; a daughter, Chara McDonald of the home; two sisters, Kathrine Moncevallez of Albuquerque, N.M., and Virginia O'Baret of Redlands, Cal.; a grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Viola “Vi” McDonald, 77, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021, in Hereford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ruben Coronado officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday, August 11, 2021, from 1:00-4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Vi was born on June 11, 1944, in Clayton, New Mexico to Tony and Abelina (Baros) Encinias. She moved to Hereford at the age of two and has been a lifelong resident. She married Don Ball McDonald on December 6, 1961. Vi was hardworking and at the age of 14 started working at the Star Theatre in Hereford, she later started and owned the Vacuum Store, expanding to two stores downtown until relocating the business to her home. Vi known as the “Vacuum Lady” was a successful business owner and salesman, winning many awards. She loved her animals, collecting many over the years to include a peacock, parrots, dogs: schnauzer’s and chihuahua’s, and cats. Vi loved the Lord and her family. She had a blunt sense of humor, making memories for everyone who knew her and was known for her sweet, kind self.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Randy and Kirt McDonald of Amarillo, Texas; daughter Chara Dawn McDonald of Hereford, Texas; grandchildren, Sergio Dominick McDonald and Ryan Shane Flores both of Amarillo, Texas; great-grandchildren, Avery, Kynlee, Dominick, and Damien McDonald all of Amarillo, Texas and Zion Flores of Angel Fire, New Mexico, and Shane Lee Flores of Amarillo, Texas; a sister Kathrine Monceballez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Don Ball McDonald, two sisters Alice Mitchell and Cora Grosenbacher, a brother Joe Ennis, and sister in-law Peggy Ennis.
