Funeral services for J.F. Messer, 61, of East Highway 60, were conducted Saturday afternoon in First Baptist Church by the Rev. H.V. Fields, pastor of Grace Gospel Church. Gililland Funeral Home directed burial in West Park Cemetery.

Mr. Messer, a construction contractor who had lived in Hereford since 1943, was pronounced dead on arrival at Deaf Smith General Hospital Thursday.

He was born Aug. 16, 1910 at Bowie, and Married Victoria Eastman Aug. 19, 1937 in Sayre, Okla. They mover [sic] to Deaf Smith County from McLean. Mr. Messer was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife; four sons, Jackie, Jimmy, Roy D. and Cecil, and a brother, E.W. Messer, all of Hereford; also a sister, Mrs. Daisy McCoy of Reydon, Okla., and four grandchildren.

Victoria "Dude" Messer, 70, of Hereford, died Wednesday at 1:20 p.m. at Deaf Smith General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services are will [sic] be at 10 a.m. Friday in Rix Chapel with Don Cherry of Hereford officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

She was born in Idabel, Okla., and moved to Hereford in 1941 from McLean. She married J.F. Messer in 1937 in McLean. He died Dec. 16, 1971. She was a member of Hereford Riders Club, Elks Lodge and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Jacky and Roy Dale, both of Hereford, Jimmy of Canyon and Cecil of Quanah; a sister, Mae Stubbs of Littlefield; a half-sister, Marie Jenkins of Hereford; one brother-in-law, E.W. Messer of Hereford; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Texas Arthritis Foundation.
