Alice Young, 59, of Overton, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, in Dallas. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Overton with Father Jobe Thomas, Father Dan Dower and Father Patrick Fenton officiating. Graveside services will follow at 5 p.m. in the TK Cemetery in Axtell. Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home chapel in Overton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the Rosary from 6 to 8 p.m.
Alice was born in Anchorage, Alaska, to Harold Joseph and Dorothy Hackfeld Schmidt. She married Robert "Bob" Young on Aug. 12, 1972, in Bellmead, Texas. Alice attended McLennan Community College and Lamar University. A longtime resident of East Texas, she moved to Overton from Henderson in 1992. She was a member of the Rusk County Rodeo Association. Alice was "Moma Young" of the Kilgore College Ag Club. She was a sleep analyst for East Texas Medical Center in Henderson. She was also a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Alice was a member Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Overton where she served on the Financial Committee and was a member of the Event Organization Committee.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Schmidt.
Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Young, of Overton; daughters, Christine Young Lott and her husband, Jason, of Conifer, Colo., and Kara Lena Young, of Overton; her father, Harold J. Schmidt, of San Antonio; a brother, Andrew Joseph Schmidt, of Lynn, Ala.; two nieces; two nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
