Services for Mrs. Addye Miller, 93, first woman sheriff in Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church. The Rev. Mack McCarter, pastor, will be officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Miller died Tuesday at Plains Memorial Hospital in Dimmitt where she was living at South Hills Manor.

Mrs. Miller was born Aug. 29, 1885, in Palo Pinto County. She came to Hereford in 1905 and married John B. Miller, sheriff of Deaf Smith County in 1907. She later became the first woman sheriff in Texas after her husband was killed in an accident while on duty in 1936. She was active in clubs and social activities, and attended the First Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Cartwright of Dimmitt; three sons, John G. and Robert S. Miller, both of Amarillo, and Billy Miller of Hereford; 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
