E.B. Orr Passes Away
After an illness of several weeks, E.B. Orr, a well known citizen of the town, died at his residence in Hereford, May 6, at 1:10 p.m. At his bedside were his wife, some of his children, and a number of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Burk of Portales, N.M., at 4 o'clock, Tuesday, May 7, and the ramins were laid to rest in the city cemetery. His friends, E.T. Woodburn, G.M. Suggs, Sam Worley, A.J. Lipscomb, M.V. Robertson and C.R. Moreman, were the pall bearers.
E.B. Orr was in his 63rd years, was born in Tennessee, but came to Texas nearly 50 years ago. He lived in Denton county for a number of years, but came to the Plains in 1902, and for most of the time since has made his home at Hereford with his family. He leaves a wife and six children: W.R. Orr of Denton; J.A. Orr of Garza; C.W. Orr of Louisville, Texas; Mrs. H.V. Hennon of Garza; Berry L. Orr of Hereford and Mrs. Jno. N. Jacobson of Hereford. Mr. Orr was a member of the Christian church in which he has held membership for over 40 years. He leaves a host of friends to mourn his departure. He was a good friend and neighbor and was in every way a model citizen.
Card of Thanks
We desire by this way to thank the many friends and neighbors who so kindly extended their attention to our family during the fatal illness of our dear husband, father and brother, E.B. Orr. We shall never forget the expressed sympathy and Christian service rendered and may the Lord bless you all.
Mrs. M.E. Orr and children,
Peyton Orr, brother.

Ran A Variety Store
One of Hereford's early-day merchants was E. B. Orr, who came here for his health. After spending their early life in Denton County, Mr. and Mrs. Orr brought their family by train from Denton, arriving in Hereford in July 1902. He owned and operated a variety store and also engaged in farming. Their first home here was 13 miles north of town of Twenty-Five Mile Avenue.
Orr and his wife were charter members of the Church of Christ in Hereford, and he served for many years as an elder. He was born in Tennessee in 1850 and died in Hereford in 1910. Mrs. Orr maintained her home here for the rest of her life. (A History of Deaf Smith County, by Bessie Patterson, 1964
