HEREFORD, Dec. 12 - Funeral services for Wirt Phillips, 81, of Hereford, were held at 2 p.m. today in Rose Chapel of Gilliland Funeral Home here with the Rev. E.L. Davis, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial was in West Park Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips, a well-known Deaf Smith County cattleman, died in Deaf Smith County Hospital in Hereford at 11 p.m. Saturday. He was born Jan. 30, 1879, in Green Forest, Ark., and moved to Texas in 1891 from Arkansas. He moved to the Hereford area in 1905 from Collin County and married Miss Bess Sisk in Hereford Jan. 1, 1916. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, a son, Bill, and a daughter, Mrs. Viola Chisolm [sic], all of Hereford; a brother, Mark Philips [sic], of Irving; a sister, Mrs. Estelle Wester of Celina, Tex., and three grandchildren.
