*Obituary

On June 10, 2007, Bootsie went to be with the Lord. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard, Texas. Services are to be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard. Interment will immediately follow in TK Cemetery, McLennan County.

For 93 years, Bootsie Kirkland was identified by her unique name, originally a nickname, "Boots," used by her father. Bootsie was born to the late John and Weldon Lester in Mt. Calm, Texas. In 1930, she married William W. "Willie" Kirkland and they worked side by side at farming and ranching in McLennan County for 57 years. Bootsie was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Calm for 67 years until her move to Corsicana in 1991 where she joined Northside Baptist Church. Through the years her church activities included choir, Sunday School, VBS, WMU leadership, Care Center and any other position when needed. She set a Christian example for her family and all who knew her. In rearing her family, Bootsie was constantly busy with school and community activities, always supporting her children in whatever endeavor from 4-H to sports to club activities, room mother and PTA president. She designed and made many lovely creations for her daughters. Her many talents were used for the benefit of her family, friends and her Lord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Kirkland; a grandson, Clint Shelton; a great-granddaughter, Jamie Rummage; and son-in-law, Carrol Shelton.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Shelton, of McKinney, and Martha Weempe and husband, Howard, of Corsicana; son, Bill Kirkland and wife, Kay, of Temple; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
