Gladys Marie "Polly" Christian Hawkins, 96, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013. A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, at the First Baptist Church of Mart. Burial will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 7, at Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart.
Polly was born September 24, 1917 in Mart, Texas to the late Robert and Bessie Christian, the youngest of seven children. She married Carroll Brooks "C.B." Hawkins on March 9, 1935,and they celebrated 70 years together. Polly was a loving wife, mother of three, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Polly and Carroll lived their married life in Mart. Polly was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, teaching children's Sunday School and playing cards. She turned her creativity to oil painting and began to paint in her late 40's. She produced and sold bluebonnet landscapes and progressed to beautiful mountain and countryside paintings. She continued to paint well into her 90's. Her works of art hang in homes all around the Central Texas area. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her friends and family. She always had the "coffee on" and something sweet to offer anyone who came to visit. She lived the last eight years of her life in Waco, independent and happy. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. Polly lived a long and blessed life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll, who passed in October of 2005; and her brothers and sisters.
