A longtime resident of Deaf Smith County, Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Wood, 91, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, in Riddell's Rest Home in Lubbock after a long illness.
Mrs. Wood was married to J.P. Wood in Cordell County, Tex., in December of 1889. The couple came to Deaf Smith County from Cordell in 1906. Mr. Wood preceeded her in death in 1945. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Graveside rites were conducted at 9 a.m. Sunday in West Park Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Wingert, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Gililland Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son, Earl Wood of Hereford; Four daughters, Mrs. Lucy Alexander of Memphis, Mrs. Johnny Bradley and Mrs. Qula Gilliam, both of Abilene, and Mrs. Pearl Cayton of Spearman; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
