Funeral services for Mary Magdelene Oats, age 86 of Seminole, Texas will be held Monday, February 15, 2021 at11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Bush officiating and Pastor Cory Powell assisting. Burial will follow at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home. The church will allow a limited number of attendees inside for the funeral service, and it is suggested that a mask be worn and social distancing practiced, in keeping with CDC guidelines.

Mrs. Oats was born in Monroe, Louisiana July 11, 1934 to Mary Magdelene (Brown) and Eddie Lean Jackson. She married McKinley Scott Oats in Lovington, New Mexico on June 9, 1956. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church before becoming a member of Trinity Baptist Church; she was also a member of True Light Baptist Church where she was Pastor First Lady. Mary was a homemaker and had also worked for Seminole Memorial Hospital as head of housekeeping. Mrs. Oats was a God-fearing and loving woman who always put God first in her life. Mary never met a stranger; she was kind to everyone she came across and always had words of encouragement. She was a beautiful singer and good cook; she also enjoyed writing poetry and crafting. Mary Oats loved her husband and children and family dearly.

Mary Oats passed away at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas on Monday, February 8, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pastor McKinley Oats in 2003; one son, Larry Jackson in 2020; and one daughter, Gwen Oats in 2005. She is survived by one son, Ray Oats of Seminole, Texas; three daughters, Brenda Boykins and husband Roger of Houston, Texas, Belinda Oats of Lubbock, Texas, and Connie Oats of Seminole, Texas; one brother, Ollie Jackson of Midland, Texas; 14 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
