George William Ritter, 82, went home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his residence with his loving family at his side.

A Memorial Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Darren Skinner officiating. A private family burial will precede in West Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. 6th Street.

George William Ritter was born August 21, 1925 in Groom, Texas to Jess and Ayme (Jackson) Ritter. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from September 25, 1943 to September 27, 1945 as an Aerial Gunner. During this time, George served in Northern & Southern France, Balkins, Rhineland, Normandy and Rome-Arno. George received several decorations and citations for his faithful service. He married the love of his life of 56 years, Joyce (Howard) Ritter on October 5, 1951 in Grapeland, Texas, Houston County and moved to Hereford that same year. George farmed and ranched in Deaf Smith County for 60 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hereford, Fellowship Sunday School Class, Hereford Masonic Lodge #849 A.F. & A. M. receiving his 60 year membership pin in 2006, KHIVA Shrine Club of Amarillo and was the Tierra Blanca Soil & Water Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1970.

George was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Allen and Danny Ritter.

Survivors include his wife of the home, 1 daughter, Linda Ritter West and husband Travis of Guymon, OK, 1 son, Larry Ritter of Hereford, 2 sisters, Margaret Brownfield and husband Bob of Moberley , MO., Billie McCoy and husband Nelson of Zanesville, OH., 1 brother, Keith Ritter and wife Carol of Amarillo, 1 grandchild and 3 great grandchildren.

Family suggest memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Main Street, Hereford, Texas 79045 or Samaritan Hospice, 426 N. Main Street, Suite E, Hereford, Texas 79045.
