HEREFORD - Services for Pedro Serna, 53-year-old Hereford resident and brother of two Victoria residents, were conducted Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church here.

The Rev. Cletus McGorry officiated at the services. Burial was in West Park Cemetery, Hereford.

Mr. Serna died Monday evening after a short illness at a hospital in Friona.

He was born July 24, 1933, in Inez to Julia P. Serna and Seberiano Serna, who preceded him in death in 1984.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Cervantez Serna of Hereford; five daughters, Estela Gracia, Rosie Serna, Elida Garcia and Alice Reyna, all of Hereford, and Maria Serna of Plant City; two sons, Pedro Jose Serna Jr. of Sundown and Robert Serna of Hereford; his mother, Julia P. Serna of Cuero; six sisters, Angelita Guerra and Mary Silvas, both of Victoria, Guadalupe Salazar of Cuero, Lupe Lankness and Eva Chavez, both of LaPorte, and Felipa Ramirez of Pasadena; and one brother, Seberiano Serna Jr. of Freeport.

Rix Funeral Home, Hereford, was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Serna, 86, of Hereford, Texas passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 in Levelland, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Celebrant Nicholas Gerber, burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be Thursday from 1:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home and rosary to be at 6:00 PM. Everyone attending the funeral service and the viewing/rosary must wear a mask provided by you. Your safety and health matter to us.

Frances was born April 12, 1934 in Burnett, Texas to Rafael and Julia (Salazar) Cervantez. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was a Christian woman that loved the Lord. During her battle with Alzheimer’s disease she used the Lord to find her strength and fought bravely. She worked as a house keeper for 32 years. She loved her family and always enjoyed the time they could spend together. Frances married Pedro P. Serna on October 4, 1953.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Pedro Jose Serna and his wife Margaret of Sundown, Texas, Maria Garcia and her husband Salvador of Sundown, Texas, Juanita Elida Garcia and her husband Albino of Hereford, Texas, Rosie Buentello and her husband Robert of Amarillo, Texas Estella Garcia and her husband Torlin of Hereford, Texas, and Alice Reyna and her husband Mario of Amarillo, Texas; siblings Henry Cervantez, Robert Cervantez of Odessa, Texas, and Ralph Cervantez and his wife Virginia of Round Mountain, Texas, Janie Ribera and her husband Mingo, Maxie Ribera and her husband Raymond all of Round Mountain, Texas and Mary Gonzales and her husband Mauricio of Tyler, Texas; 28 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.

Frances is joining her parents, her husband, Pedro Serna, Sr., and 3 brothers, George Cervantez, Vicente Cervantez and Joe Cervantez in heaven.
