*Obituary Emma L. Devereux Shepard
Mrs. George E. Shepard, 76 years old, died at her home here last Saturday, following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Christian Church, conducted by Rev. James T. Ross, of Woodward, Oklahoma, assisted by Rev. E.P. Gleser of the First Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers were Lester Gailey, Ezra Norton, Jno, Flanigan, D.H. Alexander, Edwin Ramey, Ralph McCullough. Burial was in West Park Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Shepard came to Hereford in 1919 after having lived in Dimmitt nine years. They moved to Dimmitt from Macon, Nebraska.

Mrs. Shepard was born July 3, 1857, at White Hall, New York. Her maiden name was Emma L. Devereux. She was married to George E. Shepard at Downers Grove, Illinois, September 14, 1881.

She was a devout member of the Presbyterian church, having become a member of that church about 12 years ago. Those who knew the home and community life of her affirm that it was one of unselfishness, always being a loving mother, a devoted wife and a good neighbor.

Surviving are her husband and seven children, Ella Mary, William, Frank, Charles, Thomas, Percie and David; her mother, Mrs. W. Devereaux; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Suker and Mrs. Harry Bruns, of Downers Grove; three brothers, Ed, Winnie and Warren Devereaux, of Downers Grove. There are 22 grand children and 13 great grand children.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Lynch of Franklin, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. George Lynch of Franklin, Nebraska, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shepard of Wilsonville, Nebraska.
