Bettie Jean Watkins, 82 of Hereford, Texas passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 in Hereford.
Graveside services will be Friday, May 1, 2020 at 2:00 PM at West Park Cemetery with Pastors Allen Posey and Ted Taylor officiating. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be Thursday, April 30, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Bettie was born November 7, 1937 in Shelby County, Kentucky to Eva and Mary (Cays) Rogers. Bettie has been a resident of Hereford since 1968. She married Edgar Watkins in 1966 in Elizabeth Town, Kentucky. Bettie loved to read, playing cards, especially Yahtzee, coloring in adult coloring books, attending wrestling matches, cooking, Mexican food was her specialty and always taking care of others. Her family called her the “baby whisperer.”
Those left to cherish her memories are her children Carol Worthan of Hereford, Texas, Monta Raye Kuhlman and her husband Ron of Oakley, Kansas, Dee Houston and her husband Sam of Santa Maria, California, Johnny Watkins of Hereford, Texas and Lisa Herrera and her husband Jesus of Hart, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and one on the way and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edgar Watkins, a grandson Joseph Puente, three brothers Ollie, Billy and Roy Rogers and a sister Rachel Rogers, and one son-in-law Johnny Worthan.
