*Obituary Orville A. Smith
Orville A. Smith, 77, of Hereford, died Monday.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Ron Cook, pastor. Interment will follow in West Park Cemetery under the direction of Gilliland-Watson Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith, born at Sulphur, Okla., moved to Hereford in 1941 from Quail. He was married to Jewel Skaggs in 1931 at Hollis, Okla. He was retired from Consumers Co-op. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, June Owen of Hereford and Karen Garrett of Altus, Okla.; a son, Gary Smith of Silsbee; five sisters, Ruth Bennett of Altus, Mary Davis of Woodard, Okla., Lucille Goertzel and Mattie Tucker, both of Enid, Okla., and Oleta Cast of Shawnee, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be to First Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Jewell Katherine Smith, 78, former Deaf Smith County welfare director, died Wednesday afternoon at Golden Plains Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Cook, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery under direction of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was the welfare administrator for Deaf Smith County for 26 years. She was active in community affairs for many years and was recognized as Hereford's Citizen of the Year for 1973. She was active in First Baptist Church for many years.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Pushmataha County,, OK. She married Orville Smith on Dec. 3, 1931 in Hollis, OK. They moved here from Wellington in 1941 and their first home was on the Conkwright Ranch north of Hereford. He died in 1987.
Survivors include one son, Garry Smith of Silsbee; two daughters, June Owens of Hereford and Karan Garrett of Altus, OK.; two brothers, Jones Skaggs of Mangum, OK., and Bryan Skaggs of San Diego, CA.; eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials to First Baptist Church scholarship fund or Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
