Daniel Turrentine.

Daniel Turrentine was born in Tennessee March 25, 1832. He died in Hereford, Texas, April 22, 1905, and was buried in the City Cemetery by the pastor of the Methodist Church. When a boy four years of age his father moved with him to Arkansas. In young manhood he loved and married Mary Elizabeth Holmes, a sister of Rev. S.T. Holmes of the Northwest Texas Conference. Their union was blessed with an issue of four boys and four girls.

In 1896 he moved with his family to Ellis county, Texas, and six years latter [sic] settled in Hereford, Texas, where he lived until the Death Angel came to call him home. He leaves a wife and seven children. His oldest daughter, Annie, was married June 1903 to Rev. John Lewis Cannon who is a member of the Little Rock Conference.

At nineteen years of age he was thoroughly and soundly converted. He joined the Methodist church and for fifty-four years was a most consistent member. In the church he served for many years as class leader and superintendent. He loved the church and the Methodist preacher and for many years his home has been the preachers' home.

His religious experience was deep and profound and grew more tender and mellow as he got nearer home.

During the past ten years he suffered greatly, but through it all he was patient and resigned. It was my great privilege to be with him frequently during the past few months. As we read together God's word and prayed, his face would light up with a heavenly glow.

As gently as a babe goes to sleep in its mother's arms, he fell asleep in Jesus at 8:45 o'clock Saturday evening to spend his first Easter Sunday with his risen and ascended Lord. Truly could it be said of this noble servant of the church - "Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many thins; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

May God bless and kee [sic] his loved ones until they shall meet forever beyond the River.

Thos S. Barcus, Pastor.
