John E. Walker was born in Neochio [sic], Missouri in 1841, being the first male child born in that town. When just a child he, with his father and mother, moved to Arkansas. He attended school at Cane Hill, Arkansas until the civil war begun, from which school enlisted and served through the next four years, with Gen. Stanwick's brigade. At the close of the civil war he joined his family in Fannin County, Tex., where he was married to Sarah Isadora Holland, the second daughter of J.E. and Elizabeth Holland, she survives him, having been married fifty-three years. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom are living: Mrs. W.E. Thornton,, Williamson, Texas, J. Polk Walker, Hereford, Mrs. E.W. McNutt, Amarillo, Texas, ? Walker, San Angelo, Texas, Charles Walker, Dalhart, Texas, Fred Walker, Hereford, Forrest Walker, Amarillo.

He was a member of the Methodist church 71 years and was an earnest,, energetic consecrated christian.

*Obituary Dora Holland Walker
Mrs. J.E. Walker, well known former resident of this city and a Texas pioneer, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.W. McNutt, Amarillo. She had reached the age of seventy-nine years, eight months and eleven days.

Mrs. Walker was born in Kentucky on May 31, 1848, and moved to Fannin county, Texas, where she spent her girlhood. Following her marriage, she lived in Georgetown, Texas, for more than thirty years, after which she moved to Hereford. The family lived here for about eight years, and have spent the past eight years in Amarillo.

Funeral services were held in Amarillo at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, and interment was made at 4:00 p.m. in West Park Cemetery, Hereford.
