Alleen Bohannon, 78, of Big Spring died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Hospice House in Odessa. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 PM Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at Coahoma Cemetery.
She was born July 31, 1927, in Tulsa, OK to Allie and Van Dean Hambright. She married Omer Junior Bohannon on September 22, 1945. She was a teacher for Coahoma Independent School District where she helped pioneer the Gifted and Talented Program. She retired from Teaching in 1986. Alleen was a wife, mother, educator, and friend. She embraced life, giving more than she took, sharing her joy and living through her faith. Alleen, a woman of great integrity and humility, loved by all, will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband O. J. Bohannon of Big Spring; 2 sons: Dean Bohannon and his wife Ann of Midland, and Danny Bohannon and his wife Marlene of Bakersfield, CA; 2 daughters: Katy Bohannon of Big Spring and Cheryl Bohannon Spears of Austin; 2 brothers: Darrel Hambright and Eugene Hambright, both of Tulsa, OK; 9 grandchildren: Rodney Bohannon, Eric Bohannon, Josh Paul, Trey Bohannon, Omer Joe Bohannon, Kade Spears, Kristy Paul, Tyler Spears, and Tanner Spears; and 6 great grandchildren: Kelsey Faith Bohannon, Landon Ty Bohannon, Alleen Bohannon, Dillon Bohannon, Timmy Bohannon, and Marlorie Paul. Alleen was also close to family members and friends: Marjorie Carre, Bob and Phyllis Tidwell, Marilyn Read, Sue Tindol, Bo Fryar and her prayer group.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 1 sister: Carolyn Ernest; and an infant daughter: Cynthia Bohannon.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Scholarship Fund of Coahoma Schools, Attn: Donna Bibb, P. O. Box 110, Coahoma, TX 79511 ; or the First Presbyterian Church of Coahoma, P. O. Box 94, Coahoma, Texas 79711. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
