Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory, published November 22, 2013) - Ernestine "Granny" Childers, 87, of Big Spring, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 25, 2013 at Midway Baptist Church, Big Spring with Rev. Jim Binix, officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery, Coahoma.
She was born May 23, 1926 in Eastland County, Texas and married William T. "Bill" Childers December 24, 1943 in Gorman, Texas. He preceded her in death April 14, 1996.
Ernestine had worked at Hall Bennett Hospital and as a substitute for Coahoma ISD. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and worked in the nursery. She loved working in the yard; enjoyed cooking and sports and especially enjoyed her time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl New and husband, Roy; three sons, Mike Childers and wife, Karen, Tim Childers and Jeff Childers and wife, Stacey; one brother, Gene Jumper and wife, LaDell; one sister, Betty Waters and husband, Ray; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; Clarice Lloyd of Elmendorf, who was like a daughter; multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence E. and Reney Hagar Jumper; her mother and father-in-law, Lake and Hattie Childers and a grandson, James Thomas Childers.
Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
