Sylvia Ann "Sweet Pea" Hernandez, 37, of Ft. Worth, formerly of Coahoma, died Saturday afternoon, September 25, 2004, following an automobile accident near Jackson, Mississippi. Vigil Services will be at 7:00 PM Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Rev. James Plagens, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Coahoma Cemetery.
She was born May 10, 1967, in Big Spring to Frank Hernandez and Maria Rodriguez Hernandez. She graduated in 1986 at Kermit High School. She worked in Health Care in California for nine years. She went to the Midland Driver Training School and had been a truck driver for Werner Enterprises in Ft. Worth for five years. She had always wanted to be a truck driver and always loved being on the road. Her CB Handle was "Sweet Pea". Her favorite color was yellow as seen in her truck and her Tweetie Bird collection. She was a Catholic. Her love of life could be summed up in the following poem: "I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
She is survived by her fiancée: Thomas Curtis of Canton, Georgia; six brothers: Chris Hernandez and his wife Julie of Ft. Worth, Joe Hernandez and his wife Patsy of Big Spring, Manuel Hernandez of Odessa, Pete Hernandez and his wife Rosie of Kermit, Mingo Hernandez, of Arizona, and Henry Hernandez of Kermit; five sisters: Toni Valenzuela and her husband Octavio of Burleson, Virginia Robollo and her husband Ed of San Antonio, Florence Garcia and her husband Willie of El Paso, Mary Ann Lujan and her husband Larry of Ft. Stockton, and Margie Dominguez and her husband Eraldo of Kermit; and 33 very special nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews, all of whom she regarded as her own; and her beloved companion, Sassy.
Pallbearers will be Gabriel Garcia, Chris Hernandez, David Ray Martinez, John Paul Hernandez, Fabian Dominguez, Erick Hernandez, Lee Hernandez, and Robert Gold. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joshua Garcia, Danny Hernandez, Johnny Martinez, Steve Martinez, Domonic Dominguez, Richard Hernandez, Mario Hernandez, Steve Gold, Larry Joe Lujan, J. J. Hernandez, Michael Lujan and Francisco L. Hernandez.
Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
