*Obituary Joan Smith Grayson
Graveside services for Joan Grayson, age 82 of Seminole were held Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Gaines County Cemetery with Pastor Joe Stewart officiating. All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.

Joan Grayson, beloved wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma went to be with her heavenly father on November 13, 2020. Joan was born in Lamesa on November 17, 1937 to Burtis and Mildred Smith. In her early years Joan moved with her family to various places in Texas, finally settling in Dublin. Joan’s sister Pauline was born to the family in 1942. When Joan was five years old their home in Dublin was destroyed by fire, so they moved to Oceanside, California to live near other extended family. Joan’s father worked in a factory through the war years. When Joan was 12 years old, they moved to Knot, just south of Lamesa. Joan often spoke of how she moved from the beaches of Oceanside to Knot, which had plenty of sand, but no ocean. Joan’s father later purchased a farm near Fairview, about 12 miles east of Seminole. Joan attended Seminole schools and graduated from Seminole High School in 1956. Upon graduation Joan began working for Gaines County Abstract Company in Seminole. Joan married her high school sweetheart Gordon Grayson on April 20, 1957. They settled in Seminole. They had three children, Kelly, Steve, and Christi. Joan worked at the abstract company her entire career, eventually becoming the company manager. She retired in 2008. In 1975 Gordon and Joan fulfilled a dream when they bought a farm with a house at the end of the road, about nine miles east of Seminole. Their home and farm have become a place with many special memories for all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joan loved hosting family and friends in her home. Joan always said the deer and quail in the back yard were off-limits during hunting season. She was a wonderful hostess, always making her guests feel at home.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her son Stephen, and son-in-law Mike Warlick.

Joan is survived by her husband Gordon, daughters Kelly (Rod) Guthmueller and Christi (John Burdsal) Warlick, and sister and brother-in-law Pauline and Waymon Jones, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. www.seminolesentinel.com
