Louis V. Zapata, age 90, of Lubbock and formerly of Petersburg, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, surrounded by family. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lubbock. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, with Father James O'Connor as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Idalou Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas. Louis was born on June 21, 1925, in Cameron, Texas, to Epifanio Zapata and Clara Varela Zapata. He moved to Petersburg, in 1955 and married Eunice Lucio on Jan. 3, 1955, in Clovis, N.M. They raised a family together and were married for 60 years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He and Eunice attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lubbock. Louis was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Survivors include his beloved wife, Eunice Zapata of the home; three sons, Roy Zapata and wife Shirley, Rudy Zapata and wife Sharon and Steve Zapata and wife Hermie; three granddaughters, Nicole Thomas and Michele Thomas and Stephanie Richardson and husband Neil; one grandson, Jaime Zapata and wife Yesenia; five great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one great-great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by six sisters.
