A graveside service for Ava Hastey Young of Lubbock is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today, Dec. 22, 2011, in City of Lubbock Cemetery to remember her 87 years of life, with Robert Malcom officiating.
Ava passed away Dec. 19, 2011. She was born in Haskell County to Henry and Letha Hastey on Jan. 26, 1924. Ava graduated valedictorian of her high school class in Quitaque, Texas. She attended Droughns Business School and continued her education at Texas Tech University, earning her bachelor's degree. Ava married Robert Young in 1959. She worked as a certified medical records administrator until she retired.
Ava was preceded in death by two brothers, James "Corky" Hastey and Gerald Hastey.
Ava is survived by one son, Kerry Young of Lubbock; two daughters, Patsy Nichols and Cindy Brecht, both of Lubbock; two grandsons, Chris Young of Pilot Point and Robert Young of Lubbock; two brothers, Henry Hastey of Memphis and Maurice Hastey of Plainview; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
