R. J. "June" Cate, 85, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at his residence.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born on March 7, 1924, in Spur, Texas and married Gladene Fields.

He had worked for Olden Independent School as a maintenance man and then for Lester Humphrey Pest Control as an exterminator.

June enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding on his scooter picking up cans.

He served 3 years in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gladene Fields Cate of Big Spring, one daughter and son-in-law, Laverne and Bobby Boyett of Olden; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Terri Cate of Big Spring; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Jerrell Cate of Eastland; and two sisters, Billie Dupuy of Snyder and Gwinn Collins of Azle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Betty Cate; one son Glenn Cate; one sister and six brothers.
