*Obituary Henry Dell Price
Henry Dell “H.D.” Price, 102, of Andrews was called home on Friday, November 25, 2016. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27th from 6-8 pm at McNett Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of this wonderful man at 2:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Andrews Church of Christ, 201 NW 2nd Street, in Andrews with burial to follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery. Please celebrate the life of H.D. by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com.
He was born in Midland, TX on October 21, 1914 to William Melvin Price and Edna Ola Montgomery Price. The Price family first came to Andrews in 1917 traveling in a covered wagon and then settled here in 1925. He loved to tell everyone he had lived in Andrews County longer than anyone else. He received the Pioneer of the Year award for Andrews County in 2010. He was a man of many talents; during his lifetime, he worked many jobs such as ranching, farming, bus driver, many oil field positions and the list continues. His hobbies included deer hunting and prospecting, inventing, collecting and tinkering. He was known as H.D. to many but not everyone knew the meaning of his initials. When asked what H.D. stood for he would reply- Heavy Duty, Hum Dinger, Happy Day but very rarely would he ever answer Henry Dell. One nurse lovingly decided it stood for Hell and Damnation. Throughout his life, H.D. was a servant of the Lord and what a legacy he has left on this earth. He served as an elder of the Andrews Church of Christ and he truly lived a Christ-like life. Although he is no longer with us, his presence lives on forever in the hearts of everyone he met and in the lives he touched; mainly in the family he was so very proud of. He often told others that he had the “best family in the world and I love each one of them.” H.D. married Ora Lee Nicholson on December 24, 1934, they were blessed with six children and enjoyed a wonderful 46 years of marriage. He was fortunate enough to find love for a second time when he married Bertha Nicholson Savage on August 28, 1981 and they celebrated 18 glorious years together. In 2000 at his great grandson Kyle’s wedding, he caught the garter and sure enough he snared a wife, Redah Marley before the year was over. November 11th marked 16 loving years of marriage.
H.D. was preceded in death by his parents William Melvin Price and Edna Ola Montgomery Price; his brothers William Edward and Jerry Milton Price; Wives Ora Lee and Bertha; daughters Barbara Ann Price, Zena Joyce Price, Nelda Rae Price French; a son Curtis Larry “Buddy” Price; a son-in-love Jack Ray French, grandchildren Stanley Britt French, Doak Ray French and Tanya Denise French Brooker.
H.D. is survived by his wife, Redah, of Andrews; son, Lee and wife, Shirley, of Austin; daughter, Cherry and husband, Leslie Potter, of El Paso; daughter-in-love, Myrle Price of Andrews; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home at 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Permian Residential Care Center and Hospice for their support in his final days.
