ANDREWS Dan Sullivan, 86, of Lubbock, formerly of Andrews, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Lubbock.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2016 at Graveside in the Andrews Old Cemetery with Father David Perdue of Lubbock officiating. Services are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 – 12 PM at the funeral home. Dan was born on February 6, 1930 in Bellville, Texas to Pitman Z. and Dolores Hank Sullivan. He lived in New York State before moving back to Texas with his parents. Dan graduated from George Washington University and the Texas University School of Law. He was a partner in the law firm of Sullivan & Sullivan with his father in Odessa, Texas. Dan married Barbara Anderson on Thanksgiving Day November 28, 1957, they moved to Andrews later that year. He opened a branch law office in Andrews; Dan practiced law for 54 years, retiring at age 82. Dan had served as President of the Kiwanis Club, Secretary of the Democratic Executive Committee and President of Andrews Bar Association. He was elected District Attorney of the 109th Judicial District taking office in January 1960. In 1963 he was invited to serve as U.S. Senator Ralph Yarbrough's Administrative Assistant for Texas Affairs at Austin. The Sullivans moved to Austin and Dan traveled extensively for Senator Yarbrough until Dan returned to Andrews to run for U.S. Representative at Large in the Democratic Primary in 1964. Dan served on the School Board for a total of 21 years. He was the Democratic County Chairman and on the Board of Directors of Community General Hospital. He was involved in the formation of two oil and gas companies, Antex Oil and Gas Company, Inc., and Eastex Royalty and Development Co., he also owned Westex Real Estate Company. Dan was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Andrews; he served as Senior Warden and member of Bishops Vestry Committee. After moving to Lubbock he was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Dan liked to read, loved traveling the world and going on cruises, his last cruise made the 76th cruise he had been on. He enjoyed making wine at home. Dan was a strong supporter of The Texas University Longhorns. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara on September 15, 2013 after 56 years of marriage, and 2 sisters; Carole Gazella and Barbara Hawkins.

He is survived by 2 daughters; Julia and husband Tracy Miller of Lubbock and Janie Sullivan of Lubbock, 1 sister; Lorrie Slaughter of Louisville, Texas; 1 granddaughter, Gabrielle Miller of Lubbock.

Barbara Ann Sullivan, 81, of Lubbock, and formerly of Andrews passed away Sunday September 15, 2013 in Lubbock.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday September 19, 2013 at Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Father David Perdue will officiate.

Barbara was born September 9, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Claude and Clara Mae Anderson. She Graduated from Texas Western College, now known as UTEP where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She married Dan Sullivan (former Andrews Attorney) on Thanksgiving Day in 1957.

She moved to Andrews in 1956. Barbara was a school teacher for several years, she was also a real estate agent, and she served as the Chair person of the Democratic Party for Andrews County for several years. She loved to read and travel, and she has been around the world several times. And she loved to watch Old westerns on TV. She and Dan moved to Lubbock in February 2012 from Andrews.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Sullivan; daughters Julia Miller and Jane Sullivan and Sister Gwen garner all of Lubbock. And one granddaughter, Gabrielle Erin Miller.
