Doris Marie Southern, 83, of Andrews passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in Midland.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 8, 2019 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation is under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home, and inurnment of cremated remains will be in the Andrews West Cemetery. Doris was born on January 16, 1936 in Montague County, Texas to Dewey Aubrey Dorman and Amy Leonilta Evans Dorman. She was raised and attended schools in Bowie and had taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church in Bowie. She moved to Andrews in 1972 from Bowie. She had worked as a waitress for over 23 years in Andrews, especially at El Charito. She was a beer drinking, wahoo loving, big hearted woman, who loved cooking up big meals for her family. Always cooking enough to feed an army. You also did not touch her red dice and red marbles during Wahoo, and she loved wearing her red lipstick and red nail polish. She enjoyed being outside in her backyard, camping, fishing, watching the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys, and collecting ceramic roosters. She was known for her football square games. She enjoyed traveling back home to Bowie to see her family and the farm. She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.F. Middleton, second husband, Lonnie Southern, her parents, 2 sons, Danny and Ronnie Middleton, sister, Patsy Damron, and brother, Buster Dorman.
Doris is survived by her 2 daughters, Treva Southern of Andrews and Patty Orona and husband, Sonny, of Odessa, 1 sister, Melba Gant of Longview, 1 brother, J.D. Dorman of Bowie, 6 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Midland Medical Lodge and Home Hospice for their care, and memorials may be sent to Home Hospice of West Texas.
