Graveside services for Billie Jean Cottrell, age 66 of Monahans and formerly of Seminole, Texas, will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Gaines County Cemetery with Dean Boyer officiating; burial will follow. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Billie Cottrell was born July 1, 1956 in Seminole to Dorothy (Chisom) and Luther Murphree. She attended Seminole schools and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Billie worked for Seminole Hospital for many years in the kitchen before moving to Caldwell, Texas, where she worked for the VFW for 16 years. She had lived in Monahans for the past six years. Billie was strong-willed and you always knew where you stood with her. Her friends would tell you she was a true friend who was always willing to go the extra mile for them. She dearly loved her two grandsons; they were her life.
Billie Jean Cottrell passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023 at her residence. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by one son and one brother. She is survived by one daughter, Traci Munoz (husband Freddie) of Monahans; five brothers, Larry Murphree (wife Kelly) of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Stevie Murphree and David Murphree (wife Susan), both of Seminole, and Luther Murphree and Michael Murphree (wife Patsy), both of Midland, Texas; one sister, Mary Harris of Georgetown, Texas; and two beloved grandsons, Kaiden and Loagan Berryhill.
