Charles A. Dykes, Jr., 77 of Big Spring died Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Midland Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM Friday, August 5, 2016 at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Myers & Smith Chapel with Courtney Ballard of Circuit Riders Cowboy Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born November 17, 1938 to Susie May Dykes and Charles A. Dykes, Sr. in Bokchito, Oklahoma.
Charles came to Howard County in 1956 from Paris, Texas.
He married Rita Jo Owens in 1985 and she preceded him in death in 2001.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He worked for Texaco at the Vealmoor Plant for thirty-five years and retired in 1994.
After retiring he owned a welding service.
He loved Indian artifacts and Indian History as he was very proud of his Cherokee heritage.
He was a member of the Circuit Riders Cowboy Church.
Charles is survived by two daughters: Angela Dykes-Mulanax and husband Stephen of Cypress and Tracy Wright and husband Troy of Ft. Worth; two sons: Stacy Dykes of Ft. Worth and Shane Dietz and wife Amanda of Melrose, NM; his significant other: Mariann Williams of Big Spring; two sisters: Edith Gonzales and husband Gary of Huntington Beach, CA and Eileen Pellerine and husband Cary of Gallatin, TN; nine grandchildren: Guerin Linstrom and wife Robin, Triston Lindstrom U.S.M.C., Landrie Whitaker, Logan Wright and wife Shastyn, Kyrie Clark and husband Keegan, Larissa Sarradett and husband Joseph and Zachary Dykes and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are: Logan Wright, Joseph Sarradet, Zachary Dykes, Gage Dietz, Gerald Ray Dykes, Jr. and Troy Nicolls.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; one sister: Mary Bloesma and one brother: Bill Dykes.
