Mary Murphree Ellis, 94, of Big Spring passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. thru 2:30 p.m. at Myers and Smith Funeral Home on Friday, June 3, 2016. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. David Harp, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stanton, officiating.
She was born April 23, 1922, to Thelma Barnett Anderson and Charles Sidney Anderson in Big Spring. Mary married Arlie Murphree, Oct. 14, 1940, in Big Spring, and he preceded her in death in 1977. She later married Charlie F. Ellis, Dec. 1, 1981, in Lovington, N.M., and he preceded her in death in 1988. She lived in Martin County until 1973, prior to moving to Big Spring. She attended First Baptist Church of Stanton before moving to Big Spring, and then attended First Presbyterian Church. Mary was a homemaker, but farmed with her husband. She also loved painting.
Mary is survived by one sister, Billie Miles of Big Spring. She is also survived by two nephews, Brent Hatch and wife TaLoni of O'Donnell, and their children Michael Sherrill and Jonathan Sherrill, both of Odessa, and Alicia Sherrill of Austin; and Sidney Hatch and wife Susan of Midland, and their daughter, Cindy Hatch of Midland.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one sister, Charlene Hatch.
Pallbearers are Danny Kennemur, Brent Hatch, Sidney Hatch, Pete Gutierrez, Lanny Fryar and Duane Murphree.
